When I launched Walczak Policy Consulting in January, I was reasonably confident I’d find work, but I’ve been blown away by the opportunities I’ve been given to work on tax policy with great organizations across the country. Now that we’re in Q4, I wanted to pause to say thank you. (I’ll return to ordinary SALT Road content next week.)
Thank you to all of you who read and have shared this Substack. Thank you to everyone who has recommended me to someone. And thank you to those of you who have entrusted me with your business.
Ten months in, I’ve either worked or am currently working with (among others):
9 State Policy Network affiliates
2 national policy organizations
2 state taxpayer associations
a state chamber and 3 business/industry groups
Through my consultancy, I’ve published on:
the California wealth tax’s economic implications, and its legal, administrative, and design flaws (CalTax Foundation)
the tax-shifting implications of proposals for Ohio property tax repeal (Lincoln Institute of Land Policy) and Florida homestead exemptions (Florida Housing Coalition)
options for reforming Illinois’ tax code (Illinois Policy Institute)
why data center equipment should be exempt from the sales tax (National Taxpayers Union)
how rent control can increase tax burdens on homeowners (Fiscal Alliance Foundation)
how taxing international income makes Oregon less competitive and raises costs for Oregon consumers and businesses (Oregon Business & Industry)
the economic effects and dynamic cost of a proposed income tax cut in Massachusetts (Pioneer Institute)
why the inheritance tax is a poor source of local revenue (Platte Institute)
and many more, including blog posts and short-form content for a number of organizations, and several more papers yet to come this year
I’m grateful for the trust you’ve all placed in me, and for the opportunity to work with so many excellent organizations.
And while I’m largely booked through the end of the year, I’d love to work with more of you in 2027. If your organization is in the market for research, analysis, or other consulting work—whether that means commissioning a paper or research project, booking a speaking engagement, bringing me on as a visiting fellow, or something else—please reach out. I’d love to talk!
Thanks again to all of you. Even though 2026 isn’t quite in the books yet, you’ve already made this a great first year!

👏👏👏 Congrats!
Great stuff, Jared! Congrats on the success! One of the brightest minds in the space, so not surprising at all.
